Surgical stainless steel has a low nickel rate and can allow a low-oxygen climate such as that within a piercing. For those who are not sensitive to nickel or who have healed piercings, surgical steel body jewelry is a great choice. Its hardness means its surface will not easily scratch and create a home for pathogens, and the alloy will not blacken or stain around the skin.

– Clickers are Full Surgical Steel, Not Nickel Free Brass that has been rhodium plated.

Fun Fact about the material used for our 16G CZ Septum Clickers: 316L Surgical Steel was created in the 1950s; its carbon content was lessen from .08% to .03% for better corrosion resistance. 316 L has all of the characteristics of 316 steel but also has better weld ability. While 316 L series steel finally made its way into the medical industry, it was not originally designed for the use in the body; it was not specifically made for biocompatibility. However, its excellent corrosion resistance characteristics made it fitting for implant purposes and body jewelry.
